Classes

Consistent and prompt attendance is crucial to your child’s success. Missed classes and tardiness can hold back an entire class and the studio cannot jeopardize its responsibilities to the rest of the class for one student. Please make every effort to have your child attend every class.

No refunds are issued for absences. In the event of absence, a student may attend a make up class. To arrange a make up class, please contact the studio by email, phone, or in person. In the event that a student will be absent for illness, emergency, or vacation, we strongly encourage you to contact Infinity Dance Studio and notify us of your child’s absence.

Observation

There will be a waiting area for occasional parental observation of classes.  This will be at the discretion of the Director to maintain optimal focus for dancers.

Arrive on Time

Students should be ready for class and dressed in required attire and shoes no less than five minutes before class begins. Small children should be taken to the bathroom prior to class. In the interest of the child’s safety, students arriving more than 15 minutes into class will be asked to observe.

Pick up Time

Our staff does not guarantee supervision of a child picked up late from class. If you are running late, please contact the studio as soon as possible. This will ease the child’s nerves as well as allow us to make special arrangements as needed.

Filming, Photography and Choreography

As a courtesy to our students, there is no filming or photography allowed in the studio unless authorized by the Director. The Director must authorize any reproduction, representation or performance of choreography learned in class or rehearsal.

Withdrawals

The Director should be notified by written note or email immediately if a child must withdraw from a class. Until such time, the space will be held for the student and the charges invoiced to the parents. Any fees in arrears will also be assessed.  Early withdrawal will also result in the loss of the $30 deposit paid at the start of the season.

Student Placement

All students, regardless of age or years of training, will be placed according to their degree of accomplishment, ability, maturity, enthusiasm, physical stamina/strength, and commitment as decided by the director. Students will be placed in such classes, as the director deems appropriate and safe. It is good parenting to support the teacher’s placements and trust that it is in the student’s best interest to be in, or repeat, a particular level.

Placement decisions are derived from many years of teaching experience. Often a child is placed in a particular group or class where he or she will feel confident in order to promote the development of self-esteem. Some dancers who are placed in a higher level become discouraged, only to lose their passion for dance. Others respond to the challenge of being in a class with dancers who are more proficient by pushing themselves to work harder. Placement is a highly individual and the factors that go into the decision are complex.

Classroom Behavior

No chewing gum or drinks other than a water bottle permitted in class. Proper behavior is expected of all students before, during and after classes. Students are expected to be polite, courteous and respectful towards their teachers as well as their fellow students. Teachers must have the full attention of the class in order to teach effectively. Teachers have the discretion to dismiss a disruptive student from the class in the event of improper behavior. Sitting down on the couch or floor (unless directed) is disrespectful to the teacher. Students experiencing physical or emotional problems, which prevent their full participation in a class, may observe class with a note from their parent or doctor explaining the reason.

Be Prepared

Students should arrive dressed ACCORDING TO THE CLASS ATTIRE. Students names should be on every item, especially dance shoes, dance bags, and book bags. Students who are not adequately prepared, or late to class due to lack of preparation may be asked to observe class.

Cell Phones

Cell phones are not permitted in class. Please make sure that you turn off your cell phone before class, so as not to disrupt the rest of the class if it rings, beeps, or sings.

Hygiene

Proper hygiene is essential in all aspects of life. It is very hard to approach a student or parent about lack of cleanliness or a foul body odor. However, in a dance studio where activities induce sweat and children are moving throughout the space, odors can become a terrible distraction and an embarrassment for the child should a classmate be insensitive and say something aloud. To avoid these problems, please be sure all dance wear is laundered after each wearing, hair should be clean and pulled back properly, feet should be clean, and deodorant should be a consideration for all students age 9 and up.

Disciplinary Action

Students who repeatedly disregard the class attire, miss class or disrupt classes with improper behavior may be discharged from the school and the spring performance at the sole discretion of the director, with or without warning. No refund of tuition, costumes or tickets will be given for any student who is discharged for improper conduct.
